Ridley and Tony Scott To Take Over at MGM?

SEARCH: Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, MGM

The Financial Times reports that Sir Ridley Scott and brother Tony Scott have expressed an interest in MGM, having submitted a restructuring plan to the lenders of the struggling studio. MGM is on the auction block, with $3.7 billion in debt. Time-Warner made a bid of $1.5 billion, but the studio's creditors would prefer that it remain a stand alone company and are looking for an infusion of capital to reduce the debt.

Ridley Scott (Blade Runner, Gladiator, American Gangster, and the upcoming Robin Hood) and Tony Scott (Top Gun, Crimson Tide, Man on Fire, and the upcoming Unstoppable) currently own Scott Free Productions. It is not clear if the brothers' plan would include combining MGM with their own company.

Harrison Ford Confirmed for 'Cowboys & Aliens'!

SEARCH: Cowboys & Aliens

Director Jon Favreau has confirmed via his Twitter account that Harrison Ford is officially onboard for Cowboys and Aliens! At the moment, Favreau is set to commence filming his adaptation of the graphic novel in July of this year, with the release date currently set for July 29, 2011. The film co-stars Daniel Craig and Olivia Wilde, and was written by Damen Lindelof (Lost), Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek).

Here's a brief synopsis of the graphic novel, written by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg:

The graphic novel mixes Western and science fiction genres. Set in 1800s Arizona, a skirmish between cowboys and Apaches is interrupted by the crash landing of a space ship. The alien commander plans to tame the Old West and enslave everyone, but the cowboys and Native Americans turn their six-guns against the alien invaders.

New Planet of the Apes Franchise?

For several years, rumors have abounded that Fox was planning a new reboot of "Planet of the Apes". Now, news comes from MTV Movie Blog that it might be more than rumor! Actually, it would be a reboot of "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes", the fourth film in the 'Apes' saga, which was released in 1972.

The tentative title is "Caesar: Rise of the Apes" and the film would deal, as the original did, with the takeover of Earth by intelligent apes led by Caesar (played by Roddy McDowell), the son of Cornelius and Zira.

Larry Carroll of MTV spoke with Aaron Sims, character designer and special effects wizard, and asked for an update on the project. Their conversation is in the video below. I've always been an 'Apes' fan and I'd love to see this project come about!
