Drag me to hell, Sam Raimi's(Spider-Man) latest offering, is a throwback to his
officer at a bank who is greeted by a woman seemingly down on her
luck, begging and in desperate need of funds. When she is refused
another extension on her mortgage she tells Christine thatshe will be
begging for help one day soon herself.
Three days of drama, backed by a 40 year-old curse ensue, kick-starting with a car park scene that anyone who has seen P2 will be ready for. This incredibly vicious scene
became more amusing than unnerving with each frame.
The same can be said for the movie as a whole. Whilst the shock value
was there, much of it's oomph can be attributed to the film score (by Christopher Young)
rather than the action on screen.
Justin Long puts in a good turn as the rich supportive doctor
boyfriend, and I give him full credit for trying to make his part
credible.
The ending, around what happens on the third day of terror left me
feeling uneasy, not because of what I saw but because as Hollywood
lore has written, you must always leave room for a sequel.
