FIGHTING - REVIEW

Fighting

Director:Dito Montiel
Cast:Channing Tatum, Terrence Howard, Brian White, Luis Guzman, Zulay Henao
Rating: 4/5

Fighting is the latest feature from director Dito Montiel who also worked with Tatum on A Guide To Recognising Your Saints. It centres on Sean McArthur (Tatum) a street level hustler who meets Harvey (Howard) and gets introduced to the world of bare knuckle boxing with big pay cheques.

Another familiar face here is Luis Guzman. He plays the manager to Evan, the flavour of the month fighter that Sean knows from school. Guzman is consistently good in the roles he plays and having appeared in the Taking of Pelham 123 remake recently with a slew of A-List actors, deserves much greater recognition for his sometimes type-cast efforts.

The premise is weak, there's no hiding that. Pretty-boys beat each other up for money. It's that simple. Though there is a love story here and an attempt at back story, that could have been further developed.

The reason this reviewer rates Fighting so highly is because it delivers on its promise of great fights that don't disappoint. There is a certain raw element to this story that aims at doco-dama style cinema, however the sound track of banging club beats takes a shine off its art house edginess

This reviewer did not like Saints much however Fighting was engaging. It showed maturity and growth from Montiel that was really pleasing.

A negative here was the editing. Although this is a physically driven film and capturing the essence of each battle was essential, some scenes were a little too choppy and felt sloppily done.

That was not enough to detract from a maturing Tatum, a challenging Howard and a street-fighting good time. This will appeal to the ladies also as there are many melting moments to sustain their interest, and you just might enjoy the story too...and roll with the punches.

Duncan, after the G.I. Joe , Channing Tatum has beginning to build his own personality and becomes one of the most eligible actors in action movies!

It seems that you'd given a quite high rating here. I hoped it won't disappoint me...
