NICK AND NORA'S INFINITE PLAYLIST - REVIEW (ON DVD)

nick and noras infinite playlist

Director: Peter Sollett
Cast: Michael Cera, Kat Dennings, Aaron Yoo, Alexis Dzniena
Rating: ****

Movies about music are always engaging wether it be biopics like Ray, Concert movies like Shine A Light or road trip comedies like Almost Famous. Nick & Nora's Infinite Playlist is another such musical gem.

In the same vein as Juno which also features Michael Cera, Playlist speaks to the heart of a generation and specifically a demographic that are still finding themselves and channeling music Gods to help them steer the bumpy road to self discovery.

Playlist is about the adventures of Nick and Nora and their eclectic group of friends over the course of one night. They are out to get to the secret show of a band they all know and love and follow clues all over the city in oder to get their. One of them goes missing and we uncover a few secrets about our characters along the way. Ultimately everyone gets what they want and they have a lot of fun doing it with some killer tunes along the way. Especially that of Boys Don't Cry.

This reviewer immediately associated the secret show search across the city with "follow the White Rabbit' from The Matrix. This association was only helped by the band they were chasing being called "Fluffy". The pacing was well done and Cera's awkward mannerisms that served him so well in Superbad, and Juno were used with great effect here. This reviewer couldn't help thinking that the original pairing may have been with Ellen Page to replicate their magic from Juno however Kat Dennings was charming and cute as Nora and her shy sensibilities as Nora were a perfect match with Nick.

Playlist turned out to be better than expected, a smart funny and engaging ride across town and through the minds of young adults out to stamp their mark on the world, and the only axe they have worth to grind is the guitar, and that's just fine.
