Director: Ryan Shiraki
Cast: Amy Pohler,Parker Posey, Rachel Dratch, Sophie Monk
Rating: ***1/2
Spring Break is usually a topic confined to the teen genre so putting SNL starlett Amy Pohler and her 30-somehing lady friends in the mix is always going to be a humorous endeavour. Breakdown is along the lines of American Pie and it doesn't make any excuses for that. There were cheap laughs all round and a token flash (although we aren't privy to the bare flesh).
Basically the premise starts out as one Presidential staffer posing as a College student to protect the daughter of the potential V
American Vice President from debauchery, and ends up as 3 women living out their wildest fantasies in their 30's as they missed out due to nerdiness during their college years.
It's all a bit like Romie and Michelle's High School Reunion meets Baywatch.
This reviewer laughed, quiet a bit. Pohler and Monk provide the stand-out performances and although it only made a DVD release here in Australia, it's worth hiring for a girls night in, if you're stuck for choices.
No great thinking required here, and Breakdown doesn't aim above its weight, which is pretty light on indeed.
