Synopsis: On what should have been a fun-filled day at the races, Nick OBannon has a horrific premonition in which a bizarre sequence of events causes multiple race cars to crash, sending flaming debris into the stands, brutally killing his friends and causing the upper deck of the stands to collapse on him. When he comes out of this grisly nightmare Nick panics, persuading his girlfriend, Lori, and their friends, Janet and Hunt, to leave, escaping seconds before Nicks frightening vision becomes a terrible reality. Thinking they have cheated death, the group has a new lease on life, but unfortunately for Nick and Lori, it is only the beginning. As his premonitions continue and the crash survivors begin to die one-by-one-in increasingly gruesome ways-Nick must figure out how to cheat death once and for all before he, too, reaches his final destination.
There isn't much to say about this movie that is positive. The acting is wooden and the "coincidences" that cause the accidents become more and more ridiculous as the franchise rolls on.
Pretty much the only thing going for this movie is the cheesey beauty of its cast. There is gratuitous nudity and a half-arsed sex scene sure to please the teen male audience (the target demographic surely).
The script is a terrible let down and I think those who wrote it also realised it, as it all seemed to fall apart as elaborately as the accidents on screen. The conclusion to the film was also a big disappointment.
One particular character "Hunt" is completely unlikable and plays the stereotypical jock with such vigour that he is repulsive.
The rare plus side was the 3D Visual Effects. Truly, this reviewer can say that the sporadic moments in this feature where you are treated to 3D mastery, it's well worth it, and an advancement on previous 3D efforts.
There was one throwback to a previous movie in the franchise where they use the same number as they did on the Flight (180).
FD4 is truly one of the movies that gets made just for the hell of it, and with no real purpose in mind. There are explosions and gruesome dismemberments that we have come to call trademarks of the series, though some imagery is laughable rather than off putting.
Complete with token African American cast member, Final Destination is an elaborate disappointment.
The Final Destination? Let's hope so..
