Last House on the Left is a remake of a 1970's movie. Emma, John, and Mari head out on vacation to their lake house. They encounter some trouble along the way when they meet some unsavoury types along the way.
Last House is an overly gruesome somewhat cliche horror movie with predictable turns, graphic scenes regarding assault against women and gratuitous nudity. This is a slasher film with little or no substance to the story. This reviewer found it difficult to watch and was almost not going to review this film due to its sheer confronting nature in one scene and its failure to produce an engaging story throughout. This review was done out of request, and because it is in fact new to DVD thus us newly available.
This was viewed in the company of two women. One of which enjoys horror movies, however all three of us were put off by its squeamish nature. There are all the hallmarks of a cheesey formulaic slasher movie here. These include the rain, the melodramatic music and the nudity.
This reviewer wouldn't recommend this film especially to women, however it is out now on DVD and it may well find its niche, though it won't make waves in horror cirlces, atleast not for positive reasons or innovative ideas.

Horrorphile
The movie is a remake of an essentially very basic plot, so of course it will seem cliched, because so many other movies have borrowed liberally from its central elements.
Apart from the villainous female taking her top off a couple of times there was hardly any gratuitous nudity, even the rape scene was "tastefully" directed. And as for overlong, then you've obviously never seen the original, or I Spit On Your Grave, Irreversible, or I'll Never Die Alone. The rape scene is the pivotal moment of degradation and evil and so needs to be shocking. I loathe the original movie, but I felt the rape scene in this movie was effectively staged.
You describe the movie as "overly gruesome". You watched an intense rape-revenge horror movie, what were you expecting? I did think the last scene was unnecessary though.
I'm curious as to what kind of horror movies your female friend actually enjoys, especially if she is squeamish.
I can appreciate if this movie wasn't you or your friends cup of tea, but coming from a horrorphile I felt compelled to address a few things in your review which I felt were misguided and ill-informed.
but will have to see it to comment any further.
Might have to pick it up this weekend! Anyone looking for a horror Sunday.
